Day Student Provision
Northgate School is a short stay school with a purpose to manage students’ reintegration to mainstream provision. The day student setting allows students to attend the school Monday to Friday.
We have high expectations for all our students. This includes high standards of attendance, punctuality and behaviour. Relationships between staff and students are outstanding and students address staff by their first names. Students attend lessons for up to 18.5 hours each week and timetables are created for each individual student.
On arrival at the school, each student will be assigned a tutor who will support them in their educational and pastoral needs..
Students are not expected to wear uniforms. However we do request that they wear suitable clothing for school and on days where there are PE lessons or dance and yoga, they should bring loose trousers or a change of clothes.
Students are encouraged to follow healthy lifestyles. The school does not have its own canteen but there is a hospital canteen where a variety of hot and cold meals and snacks can be bought for a small charge. There are always both hot and cold vegetarian meals available. Many students bring a packed lunch and are encouraged to eat together in social group. The students have use of a fridge and microwave if they wish. This encourages good life skills
Reporting on student progress
We provide weekly progress reports to parents/carers and referrers to ensure consistent progress. The tutors regularly discuss progress on a 1:1 basis with each student. Weekly and long term targets are set, reviewed and shared on a regular basis.
We hold regular parents events throughout the year to discuss academic progress and pastoral development. We encourage parents to be fully involved in their child’s education and welcome any views or concerns they may have.
When students are ready to transition back to a mainstream school or college placement their Northgate tutor will contact the school/college to arrange a transition plan.
All students who attend Northgate School are successfully enrolled on a college placement, suitable training course or employment before they leave and we are proud of our long record of having no students who are NEET.
