Subject Overview

The Edexcel ICT Functional Skills qualifications are designed to equip learners with the confidence and ability to use ICT systems and tools, and find, select, develop, present, and communicate information. They're assessed by a single, external, paper-based test that's available on demand and completed at a computer.

Learning beyond the classroom

ICT surrounds us in all aspects of life, and students are encouraged to use their ICT skills in a range of situations e.g. they will have the opportunity to practise their ICT skills when they embark on their work experience.

Progression Pathways and Careers

Functional skills ICT is a foundation course leading up to GCSE.  Most careers require ICT skills, thanks to the growing importance placed on technology, by all kinds of organisations and ICT experts are increasingly in demand. Therefore ICT is not only a sector in its own right, but is also a component of all sectors. Most employers would like applicants to have an ICT qualification.
